When is generosity enough?

This is a transcript of the video below:

May kasabihin, “Give until it hurts.”

May pagka-walang-bahala ang tunay na pagbubukaspalad. Generosity has a certain recklessness.

Amen.

When is a donation enough? For a fruitful life, join me in another episode of Coffee and Prayer. Kape’t Pandasal [Coffee and Prayer]

The value of a lepton or the ancient bronze coin is small. So when the poor widow contributed two leptons as a donation to the temple, Jesus said,

“This poor widow put in more than all the other contributors to the treasury. For she, from her poverty, has contributed all she had, her while livelihood.”

Mark 12: 43-44

In the eyes of God, the sacrifice of the giver is more important than the size of the gift. There are people who give from their surplus, or unless they will benefit from it or sometimes contribution must be coaxed out of people. In other words, giving is not willful. There is a saying, “Give until it hurts.”

There is a certain recklessness in generosity. It was as if the widow did not consider her situation or her future when she contributed all that she had to the collection of the temple.

Because of this, we should never look down on whatever we contributed to help others, especially if we gave it without expecting anything in return. Moreover, God can do things with out small contributions to him.

Let us pray. O Lord, cultivate in us a heart of generosity to be able to respond to the needs of others. Amen.
