Why letting go is hard and what you can do

This is a transcript of the video below.

Bakit mahirap maglet go?

Mark 10: 17 and 21

Posible ang maglet-go. Nothing is impossible with God.

Amen.

Why letting go is hard. For a fruitful life, join me in another episode of “Coffee and Prayer.” Kape’t Pandasal [Coffee and Prayer]

A rich young man asked Jesus, “What must I do to inherit eternal life?” (Mark 10:17). Jesus said, “Sell what you have; and come, follow me.” But at that saying, his countenance fell because he had great possessions.

Mark 10:17 and 21

Our possessions are not just material. Many of them have been part of our identity, such as our profession, our status, and the relationships we built and nurtured. Change is scary. You must leave behind what is comfortable. It is harder if you have low self-esteem, if you can’t believe that you can achieve your dream with your grit and talent. Letting go is hardest because it is a process.

Observe what we say in each stage. “Is this happening? I can’t believe it.” “I have been a good person; I gave everything, but why was I left behind?” And then, you become angry at yourself, others, circumstance, and the world. The “what ifs” then come: “What if I’m wrong?” “I feel lost and helpless; I will just offer it to God.” But finally, we will come to a point of acceptance and the creation of a new reality. It is possible to let go. Nothing is impossible with God.

Let us pray: O Lord, grant us strength that we may free ourselves from those that are not in conformity with Christian living. Amen.
