Why is a Discerned Vote Important?

This is a transcript of the video below:

Amen.

Why should we discern whom to vote? For a fruitful life, join me for another episode of Kape’t Pandasal.

As the election season draws near, we might be overwhelmed by ads, surveys and news about politics and politicians even during the pandemic. We hear people excuse themselves: “Voting is useless because nothing changes.” Some even hesitate to register in order to vote. But if we are concerned about our country and our future, we must pay attention to the election and use our votes wisely.

Why? Cheating is already being done in broad daylight. Disvalues have been normalized, like extrajudicial killings, the spread of disinformation, or the failure to manage the pandemic. But let’s ask each other: Is lying ok for politicians whose salaries come from the taxes we have worked hard for?

So the pressing question is not who is going to lead us, but more important is what are our standards for being led?

We know that we’re headed towards disaster if our situation won’t change. That is why we must demand honesty and integrity from our leaders—and rewarding their integrity with our votes. Is there a consistency between what they say and what they do? We need to raise our standards for electoral candidates. If we want leadership with integrity, then we have to stop trusting people who lie. We can change our lives by our votes.

Let us pray: Lord, enlighten us so that the people we vote for are those who love You and our country. Amen.
